Andorra/Barcelona/Sorrento/Rome
March 3-17, 2005
Trip Leader: Hal Sparks Davis II

Ritzy,
Glitzy Andorra.
"The
whole country is about the size of Duval County; and it's one of
the most unusual destinations the Jacksonville Ski Club has ever
visited, sandwiched high in the Pyrenees Mountains, between Spain
and France." The Ski Club is evolving; many of our members
are looking not only for great skiing. they are expecting more.
That's why we put together exotic trips like this one, with great
skiing and exciting extensions after the skiing is finished. This
past March, 29 Ski Club members, ranging in age from 22 to 83, embarked
on the longest and most ambitious trip that the club has offered
to date. We flew into Spain and transferred to the Principality
of Andorra for six nights in the four star Hotel Art. The skiing
was wonderful, with a couple of days of hard snow followed by days
of bright sun and deep powder. It was a Florida Ski Council Trip
so there were plenty of other activities, like daily side trips,
folklore cocktail parties and mountain lunches. After we got plenty
of skiing in, we transferred to the opulent Avenida Palace in Barcelona
for a couple of days of shopping, sightseeing and enjoying the great
food of this beautiful Mediterranean capital. Then we boarded the
Eurostar Roma, sailed between Corsica and Sardinia and proceeded
to the southern coast of Italy for three days in beautiful Sorrento
with tours of the Pompeii, the Isle of Capri and the dramatic Amalfi
Coast. As if that was not enough, we then spent two wonderful days
in Rome, the Eternal City, with visits to the Vatican, Coliseum,
Roman Forum, the Trevi Fountain and plenty of great cafes and tratorrias.
We returned to Jacksonville, exhausted, happy, fulfilled and a little
heavier. Time to plan for next year's Adventure.
