STEAMBOAT SPRINGS
January 20 - 27, 2007

Well, we made it back from the Florida Ski Council trip to Steamboat
Springs without suffering a single injury to our trip members! The
trip went off without incident either in flight, in bus transit, or
at the mountain! We ended up with 50 people on the trip, while the
total FSC contingent was 743. We stayed at the Lodge condos, and,
for the most part, the members enjoyed them greatly. One condo felt
the condo they had wasn’t up to par, and some of the others
expressed an interest in staying on slope side so they could ski in
and ski out, but overall everyone enjoyed the trip greatly.
We arrived in Denver at 12:17, retrieved our
luggage and were on board of our bus by shortly after 1:00. We had
a brief stop at AppleJack’s liquor store enroute (where we also
grabbed a quick lunch) and arrived at Steamboat by 5:30 PM. We were
met at the office by the Lodge personnel with our condo keys, and
they grabbed our luggage and transported it to our condos. Everyone
attended the registration and received their welcome packages and
lift tickets, as well as our gift of hand and feet warmers!
People started skiing early the next morning amid
a somewhat cloudy, snowy day, but they enjoyed being out there. The
remainder of the week the weather was incredible, with blazing sun and
very mild temperatures! We had a Monday night get acquainted party at
the top of the gondola, a Tuesday FSC cup NASTAR race, a Wednesday
lunch also at the top of the gondola, and a Thursday costume party,
with a theme of “PIRATES”! It was spectacular! Many of our members
really got into the spirit with some really creative costumes! One of
our members even won a raffle drawing prize!
We ended the week with
a JSC dinner party at a great restaurant in downtown Steamboat,
where everyone got more than they could eat, and we ended the
evening with the award of prizes (no expense spared selections
totaling $18) for many of the members! We earned 3 silver and 7
bronze NASTAR medals, which we awarded at the beginning of the award
ceremony. We followed these with awards for the best Pirate
costume, the fastest male and female skiers, the worst boot problems
awards, the best boxer and crazy hat display, the best snow boarder,
and the award for the amazing last minute trip participant (he
signed up to go on Wednesday and we left on Saturday! We even had a
special award for Jay Miller as our Race Captain – a package of
Extra Strength Tylenol!
The surveys indicate
that everyone had an exceptional time, with several suggestions for
possible destinations in the future.
