JACKSONVILLE SKIERS RETURN WITH
MEMORIES AND MEDALS
The Jacksonville
Ski Club returned January 24th from our first trip of the season.
Sixty-seven members spent a fabulous week in Snowmass, Colorado, where
we joined over 700 other skiers from Florida. Our accommodations were
first rate ski-in ski-out at the Top of the Village and Timberline
condominiums.
We all hit the
slopes to crystal clear bluebird skies and perfectly groomed runs
Sunday, meeting for lunch most days and either Après ski or planned
dinners most nights.
Nastar racing is a
big part of the week. Twenty-three of Jacksonville’s fastest raced
against 12 Florida clubs and JSC came in 2nd place.
Michelle Graudins from Lake City was Jacksonville’s fastest female
skier, 1st in her age group and the fastest female skier on the
mountain. Craig Smith from Fleming Island was JSC’s fastest male
skier. This is the 4th time Craig has come home with this
trophy. Jacksonville also had 15 other skiers medal. Following the
race we had a great picnic lunch on the mountain under Snowmass’s
bluebird skies.
One of the
highlights of the trip was the Thursday night themed “Tacky Prom”
party where Jacksonville’s men really stole the show. Paul Medis, P.V.
Beach, Corky Kegebein, St Johns, and Craig Smith, Fleming Island, came
dressed in plain, bright blue velvet and a white tails with plaid
shorts. Check out our web site pictures

After a great week
of skiing JSC had a private awards dinner followed with great
entertainment from our own “Almost Famous” musically talented
travelers, Alex and Maryanne Austin and Jim Builtman from St.
Augustine, Fran Voorhees, Mike Giftos, Patty and Pat Riley from P.V.
Beach, Melissa McClung and Kurt Hall from Jacksonville.
The Jacksonville
Ski Club is over 35 years young and accepting new members.
