Quebec City, Canada
February 9 – 16, 2008
by Linda Walker
On Saturday, February 9,
2008, our small band of 12 travelers set out on a once in a lifetime
adventure in Quebec City, Canada. We joined over 250 of our closest
Florida Ski Council friends at the historic Chateau Frontenac in
downtown Quebec. Our arrival coincided with the beginning of Winter
Carnival and the 400th Anniversary of this beautiful,
European-style city. The historic streets were lined with
party-goers, parade-watchers, ice sculptures, and tons of snow. Our
accommodations at the Frontenac were exquisite and the gala evening
party in the Grand Ballroom was elegant. If that wasn’t enough,
everyday we boarded charter buses to ski at one of three close-by
resorts. The resorts of Stoneham, Monte St-Anne and Le Massif
welcomed skiers with fantastic snow conditions and un-paralleled views
of the St. Laurence River. Our tours took us to the world famous Ice
Hotel – where you can spend the night on a bed of ice! Then on to
Valcartier tubing park where we grabbed inner tubes and became kids
again! There was so much to do and see it was difficult to leave the
city to ski each day. Everyone had a fantastic time and promised to
return again. Opportunities like this don’t happen every season and
the Jacksonville Ski Club was happy to offer this great trip to its
members.
