KEYSTONE SKI RESORT
MARCH 29 –
APRIL 5, 2008
by Victoria

Our group of 30 skiers
left Jacksonville early Saturday morning, arriving at Keystone at
mid-afternoon. To our surprise, we arrived just in time to catch the
end of an outdoor concert. Everyone had plenty of time to take care
of getting their rental equipment before our Welcome Pizza Party.
Keystone provided a representative for our party to answer any
questions and to provide information about the area.
Our first day of skiing
(Sunday) was the last time for night skiing for the season. The
Rothwieler and the Davis families took full advantage of the day and
night. What die-hards!!! Several of the days we had fresh snow. For
me, it was a new adventure skiing in powder, and lots of it.
At Keystone many of the slopes
were not groomed and we faced some challenges. But it only made us
better skiers. Quynh Ngo, Leah Mantle, and Jason Backlund were our
extreme snowboarders. They ventured where most of us will never go.
Many of us took advantage of
the free bus system and went to A-Basin and Breckenridge to
ski/board. Kim Neil and I went over to Breckenridge for 3 of the
days. It was very easy to get around. While we were there on April
1st, it was Gaper Day. That means that there were people dressed up
in crazy outfits. Some skiers had no shirts on. Some guys were in
skirts. It was very colorful and outlandish.
On Thursday we had our group
dinner at the Snake River Saloon. The children had their own table
and seemed to have a great time. The food was very good. After
dinner some of us went into the bar area where there were games and
dancing to a live band. We had some serious pool table games going
with some of the locals. It definitely was a happening place.
Saturday we left the resort
about 11:00 a.m. and headed back to Denver. We had a slight delay in
Memphis, but we just hung out together looking at each others’
pictures and talking about our trip. Most of us made it back to
Jacksonville by 10:00 p.m., some at 11:00 p.m. By then we were all
very exhausted.
Bob Harmon hosted our
post-trip party at his home. And since Bob has a pool table, the
games continued. Until next ski season……….
