This is what spring skiing
is all about. There was no
shortage of snow. Most of us packed with the typical Spring skiing in
mind, warm sunny day’s. This was not the case. The skiing was
fabulous all week. We woke up every morning to fresh powder and
Breckenridge’s famous groomed runs. The temperatures were in the
teens and low 20’s, making this the best week of the JSC season.
We had a total of 17 in our
group; many meeting for the first time at the Jacksonville Airport.
Fifteen were from Jacksonville, one from Atlanta, and one from New
Jersey. Since we departed from JAX late we had to run through the
Atlanta Airport to make our connections. Luckily for us, Allen
Freedman, one of our travelers was meeting us in Atlanta. He pleaded
with the agents to hold the plane for our group. We arrived in
Breckenridge and our Beaver Run Resort Condo’s about 5pm. This gave
everyone a chance to settle in before meeting at the Copper Top for a
welcome reception.
Beaver Run is the perfect
place to stay. You can go anywhere on the property and never go
outside They have numerous restaurants, bars, ski shops, pools, hot
tubs, and even a small grocery store. It is situated at the base of
Peak 9, with an indoor ski locker room just 50 feet from the lift.
The group met everyday for
lunch at a different restaurant on the mountain. This was a great
time to re-group rest and plan our afternoon on the slopes.
Most days the group met for
après ski. One of the highlights for us all was the après at Becky
Andrew's home. Becky is a friend of one of our travelers. She so
graciously invited our entire group to her spectacular home. Her home
was right out of Architectural Digest.
On Thursday night, we had
our group dinner at Kenosha Steakhouse. We all made it to the dinner,
even those who went to Vail to ski for the day. Kim Neil, David
Sheppard, Al Hammack and his grandson Cameron all enjoyed the day
skiing at Vail.
The town of Breckenridge has
so much to offer. Charlene Blount and Theresa Dietsch did not ski but
took advantage of the many historical places to visit, art galleries,
photo galleries, unique shops. They went snow shoeing and highly
recommend it. Breckenridge offers many wonderful restaurants and bars
which we all took advantage of.
Several of us went to The
Dredge for dinner. The restaurant is a barge and it is located on the
Blue River. The food was excellent as was the service.
But one should not miss the
Crepes a la Cart on Main Street. The crepes are truly out of this
world. I had one with raspberries, dark chocolate and cream.
Our last night was spent in
Denver. We found a fabulous Italian Restaurant, Diciccos. The hotel
shuttle took us there and picked us up. It was so different. The
appearance was that of a dinner theatre. A piano player entertained
us during our dinner. The food was delicious and we thoroughly
enjoyed our last night before returning to the “real world”.
