“Not Exactly Roughing It!”
On January
26th, 32 happy skiers arrived, and one sad one. Barb lost
a piece of luggage, but happily was reunited with it by that very
night. After arriving at our very spacious, with lots of stairs to
get you in skiing shape, Meadows Condos, we all got together over some
Pizza. Hal was out there a few days early to ensure that all the
arrangements and lodging suited our needs.
The week
was COLD, but that kept the snow perfect. Unfortunately the skiing
was cut short for Nancy and Wild Bill, as they had an early afternoon
visit at the Medical Center.
Informal
Après Ski meeting at the Dust Boot, a group get together at the Coyote
Café, being entertained nightly by Kurt and Mark and a rather
“adventurous” trip to Vail for some local entertainment kept the group
together both on and off the slopes. Snow on Wednesday, a day where
both skiers and shoppers, Lisa wins that award for her purchase,
visited Vail and met up later, and snow again on Friday, kept the
conditions pristine. Mike and Debi discovered how skiers should be
treated when they lunched at the Ritz. Having your boots removed and
replaced by warm cushy slippers, only to have your boots put back on
by the attendant made this a must see for others the next day. It was
worth the pricy hamburger! The Beaver Creek tradition of fresh baked
Chocolate Chip Cookies served at the base was another treat not to be
missed!
The
conditions allowed all to ski up to their potential. Jerry and Joan
get the award for most improved and even ventured onto trails with
tunnels and other unexpected obstacles.
A final
gathering for dinner on the last night at the Dusty Boot, then onto
the Hilton for more night of entertainment and our trip came to an
end. It’s all been documented by many pictures which we all shared
and enjoyed at our hostess’s beautiful house during our post trip
party.
Time to plan for next year!
